Hi Julia,

This is great. I find optimism to be one of the biggest driving forces to achieve something valuable out of life. There are so many ways to increase optimism, which is equivalent to higher productivity, but I'd like to share the number one "optimism killer."

The Killer: Internal Dialogue

It's a little "radio station" inside our head that is telling us things, most of which negative. It's the source of our subconscious conditioning over the years. If we filter out the B.S. and all sorts of negative temptations out of our subconscious mind, we can really have our internal dialogue work for us.

The source of all emotions, positive or negative, come as a result of the internal dialogue or the things we are telling ourselves. If you can handle that, it's half the battle!

Would you mind sharing some other effective ways to increase optimism? Let me know what you think:

Hi Augustine. You may like to have a look at this page: http://www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/HealthTopicDetails.aspx?p=243&np=291&id=2229

Although it is aimed at teens I think it offers good practical advice.

I hope this helps. Julia

Hmmm.... for some reason the link appears to not be there but it is! Move your mouse over the blank space and you'll find it!

Great overview on anxiety Julie.
I think it is important for those suffering any sort of anxiety to realize that you cannor have a feeling without first having a thought; it is your thought that drives the feeling. What is anxiety afterall? In my Melbourne hypnotherapy practice I empower my clients with knowlege. ANXIETY IS A FEAR OF THE FUTURE - WHICH HASN'T HAPPENED. But what they imagine is going to happen, that they DON'T WANT TO HAPPEN, MAKES THEM FEEL ANXIOUS. This is because the subconscious mind, where the imagination resides, doesn't know the difference between what is real & what is only imagined, so you have a whole body experience as if it were true. Anyone who comes through my door suffering from anxiety, I bellieve, is suffering from a misused, misguided but gifted imagination, which is being used to their detriment. But with some new habis to replace those bad ones (of thinking the worst is going to happen), people can overcome anxiety & turn their life around. simple....but not necessarily easy.
